Jemima Alexis Aitchison

Naarm/Melbourne, Australia

Jemima is a queer artist and designer living in Naarm.

Jemima is an obsessive crafter who always has her hands in a bag of clay, a ball of yarn or a pile of vintage sewing patterns. She learnt to knit and sew at 7 and spent most of her childhood making art and costumes in her bedroom. She has an extensive craft library and a passion for repurposing existing materials. Jemima has a deep love of Australian landscapes, local flora and Australiana kitsch.

Jemima spends most days running her sustainable clothing label, Accidental Jumper Co. She launched the brand in 2020 from her kitchen bench and has now produced over 2000 custom made garments.

Jemima also creates costumes for stage and television, works with global fashion brands on sustainability campaigns, runs craft workshops and continues to develop her own art practice.

Jemima graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Western Sydney in 2010, with her final work being exhibited in the National Graduate Show in Perth. She was also a finalist in the RBS Emerging Artist Award in 2010. Jemima has since completed a Diploma of Art Therapy, a Graduate Diploma of Ceramics and spent a decade developing inclusive arts and sports opportunities for people living with disability.

All work is created on the stolen lands of the Wurundjeri and Wadawurrung people.
